VERDICT – 5/5

PROS –
1) Hollywood studios busy with recycling exhausted plots and making reboots can learn a lot from South Korean cinema. Director Bong Joon-ho returns with a complex thriller which is hard to be described in a single sentence. A social commentary in the form of an engrossing thriller.
2) The jaw-dropping basement revelation scene.
3) The birthday party murder rampage
4) Ki-taek’s Plan monologue.

CULT – 1

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) A world where very familiar super-heroes with shady origins are working for a corporate.
2) Eric Kripke chose the perfect subject for his latest project. We live in a time where comic-book superheroes are having their golden-era in Hollywood thanks to MCU. Kudos to Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg for their 3rd consecutive super-hero black-comedy after Preacher and Future Man.
3) Antony Starr as Homelander. The mash-up of Superman and Captain America is the most fascinating character of all the “Supes”. Flight 37 sequence was most-shocking scene of this season.

Butcher: What’s Sporty Spice up to?
MM: Who?
Butcher: Sporty fucking Spice. What is she up to?
MM: I don’t know.
Butcher: Exactly. How about Posh? You know what she’s doing?
MM: I don’t understand.
Butcher: Making clothes for anorexics. Right? Not exactly a growth market. And Baby? You know what she’s doing?
Fuck all. Not even page six of the Daily Mail. And Scary Spice? Up to her eyeballs in lawsuits and sex tapes. Ginger, on the other hand, has released three albums. Passion, Schizophonic and Scream If You Wanna Go Faster. They’ll all make your ears bleed. You see, when they’re apart, they’re absolute fucking rubbish. But, you put them together, they’re the goddamn fucking Spice Girls.

MM: How do you know so much about the Spice Girls?

3) The wobbling trio of Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day ensures the audiences will get their money’s worth.
4) A good supporting cast including Christoph Waltz & Jonathan Banks. Chris Pine as Rex surprises in his comedic role. Jamie Foxx as MF Jones returns for one hell of a police car chase

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) A light-hearted fantasy black-comedy with a great central concept of God.
2) Great casting. Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi delivered as expected. Karan Soni as Sanjay is clearly the winner of this series. Dopinder was no fluke, Soni is currently the best actor of Indian-origin in Hollywood.
3) The opening sequence with a new version “The Ecstasy of Gold” by Ennio Morricone.
4) The concept of God’s parents and he being the runt-of-the-litter.

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) The huge production value for an almost unadaptable novel from Joseph Heller. It’s the Apocalypse Now (1979) of black-comedy.
2) Great ensemble of actors including Alan Arkin, Jon Voight, Anthony Perkins, Martin Balsam, and a cameo from the legend Orson Welles.
3) The wise old man in whorehouse.
4) Exceptional cinematography and editing.
5) Milo Minderbinder: the embodiment of capitalism mashed with Nazi ideology.
6) Bob Newhart as the reluctant bumbling Major Major

CONS –
1) Needed a better screenplay to keep the audiences hooked.

PROS –
1) A black-comedy with great entertainment for all cinemagoers. The entire gag with the dead body is now copied countless times.
2) Praiseworthy cinematography. The Manhattan street scenes, the Hamptons island, and the 1980s party environment is beautifully captured.
3) “Hot and Cold” by Jermaine Stewart.
