VERDICT – 1/5

PROS –
1) Return to View Askewniverse where Jay and Silent Bob travel to Hollywood to stop a reboot of the ‘Bluntman and Chronic’ movie. The pun on current reboot culture in Hollywood is noteworthy.

CONS –
1) A plethora of cameos but hardly an effective one.
2) An avoidable reefer comedy.

QUOTE –
Well, a reboot, boys, is when Hollywood wants to make a lot of money without the hassle of creating a new movie, so they take an old movie and change just enough to make you pay for the same shit all over again. They take a flick you loved as a kid and add youth and diversity to it.

Angel Has Fallen (2019)

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) This time it’s a war-monger Vice President who got Agent Banning framed for the attempted assassination of the President. Its the routine high-octane action where Banning got to prove his innocence and meanwhile save the President too.
2) Nick Nolte joining the cast as Mike’s father. This John Rambo type Vietnam-vet Clay Banning is one interesting character. Him blowing the entire cavalcade of bad guys around his cabin was the best action sequence. His chemistry with Mike in the post-credit scene was equally funny.
3) The franchise is tediously formulaic but surely entertaining. The action is so engrossing that Piper Perabo replaced Radha Mitchell as Mike’s wife and we didn’t even notice.

CONS –
1) Jada Pinkett Smith as FBI Agent Thompson was extremely annoying. A meaty role was given to a bad actor.

PROS –
1) A 14-yrs old girl taking revenge from a pedophile.
2) This rape-and-revenge film got some strong unseen body-horror element. The false castration scene is quite disturbing to watch.

CONS –
1) It could’ve been a better movie with a better screenplay.

PROS –
1) It’s a great workplace hang-out movie. An entire day with the Shenaniganz restaurant staff.
2) A hidden gem like many Mike Judge movies. It belongs to the league of Office Space (1999), Clerks (1994), etc.
3) It’s a fun watch with relatable characters and clever jokes.

PROS –
1) At first glance, the story looks very promising.

CONS –
1) Is this supposed to be a horror film? The screenplay and performances are hilarious.
2) This fictionalized making of Nosferatu (1922) appears more like a comedy mockumentary with zero elements of horror.
3) Terribly over-hyped movie.

VERDICT – 2/5

PROS –
1) Kurt Russell and John Malkovich face to face having an argument over “negative pressure test”.

CONS –
1) If we forget that it’s based on an actual incident, it’s a formulaic disaster film.

QUOTE –
Vidrine: I would love to hear exactly what piece of mission-critical equipment are down.
Mike Williams: Shit, where do I start? “A” drilling chair. Process Station 18. BOP control pods. Telephone system. Pipe-racking system. GPS antenna. DirecTV system. Wireless Internet. Iron roughneck. Top drive rack back system. Auxiliary-draw works control. Salt water service pumps. Smoke alarms in the galley. And the reason why you’re sweatin’ so hard is ’cause the compressor for the AC on this deck are down, too.
Kaluza: Everything but the toilets, huh?
Mike Williams: No, no, you got problems there, too, but I don’t do shitters. That’s Engineering.

PROS –
1) Return of the gentleman-sleuth in the line of Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot, solving a whodunit murder mystery.
2) A great ensemble.

1) A one-time watch movie with switcheroo being the ultimate twist.
2) The entire suspense was already revealed during the first half of the movie.

PROS –
1) The ultra-violent third act inside Rambo’s tunnel.
2) The end-credit is a treat for fans.

CONS –
1) The Rambo franchise died with Rambo (2008). The entire movie is based on a done-to-death revenge plot with mediocre acting and second-rate screenplay.

Margin Call (2011)

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) Silence before the storm of the 2008 Financial Crisis. A companion movie to The Big Short (2015).
2) Exceptional cast.
3) The late-night emergency meeting. Jeremy Irons nailed that scene in the room full of acting talents.
4) Wolves by Phosphorescent

CONS –
1) Not for the audiences who don’t understand financial jargons.

QUOTE –
John Tuld: Let me tell you something, Mr. Sullivan. Do you care to know why I’m in this chair with you all? I mean, why I earn the big bucks.
Peter Sullivan: Yes.
John Tuld: I’m here for one reason and one reason alone. I’m here to guess what the music might do a week, a month, a year from now. That’s it. Nothing more. And standing here tonight, I’m afraid that I don’t hear – a – thing. Just… silence.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019)

STORY – 1
DIRECTOR – 1
ACTOR – 1
MUSIC – 0
CULT – 0

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) Great action scenes – continuing the legacy in the 3rd installment of John Wick.
2) Tuco gun trick by John Wick: a subtle homage to an iconic movie.
3) There is a strong element of cassette futurism throughout the high table: typewriters, rotary landline phones, switchboard operator, etc.
4) The movie series will be remembered for its exquisite lingo in the crime world: High table, Deconsecrated, Excommunicado, etc.
5) The return of the Bowery King in the climax.

CONS –
1) Unnecessary Morocco subplot
2) John Wick is a lone wolf. The presence of Halle Berry as his side-kick in Morocco is annoying.
