3) The open-ended climax with both Vikram & Vedha in a standoff.
4) Performance of Vijay Sethupathi clearly over-shadowed R. Madhavan in this thriller.

CULT – 1

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) This meta-movie will age fine with time. It’s the first major interactive film of its kind on Netflix. The amount of easter-eggs and interpretations will surely get this movie it’s own fandom. The sheer amount of effort made by the makers of this film is huge.
2) Colin Ritman‘s surreal monologue

CONS –
1) For an average moviegoer, it’s neither possible to watch all endings nor the patience for exploiting all narratives.
2) What genre is this? Sci-Fi or psychological thriller?

QUOTE –
“People think there’s one reality but there’s loads of them, all snaking off, like roots. And what we do on one path affects what happens on the other paths. Time is a construct. People think you can’t go back and change things, but you can, that’s what flashbacks are, they’re invitations to go back and make different choices. When you make a decision, you think it’s you doing it, but it’s not. It’s the spirit out there that’s connected to our world that decides what we do and we just have to go along for the ride. Mirrors let you move through time. The government monitors people, they pay people to pretend to be your relatives and they put drugs in your food and they film you. There’s messages in every game. Like Pac-Man. Do you know what PAC stands for? P-A-C: “Program and Control.“He’s Program and Control Man,the whole thing’s a metaphor,he thinks he’s got free will but really he’s trapped in a maze, in a system, all he can do is consume, he’s pursued by demons that are probably just in his own head, and even if he does manage to escape by slipping out one side of the maze, what happens? He comes right back in the other side. People think it’s a happy game, it’s not a happy game, it’s a fucking nightmare world and the worst thing is it’s real and we live in it. It is all code. If you listen closely, you can hear the numbers. There’s a cosmic flowchart that dictates where you can and where you can’t go.”

VERDICT – 2/5

PROS –
1) The plot is a commentary on the current socio-political topics involving the black community like #BlackLivesMatters, gang violence, and school shootings.
2) Cedric the Entertainer as Eddie Walker again got the best lines.

CONS –
1) The movie takes a light-hearted way of simplifying things with a sappy ending rather than diving deep and challenging political correctness
2) Predictable twist and turns.

VERDICT – 2/5

PROS –
1) Sandra Bullock as Malorie Hayes – a one-woman show.

CONS –
1) A story full of loopholes. The core supernatural phenomenon is never explained.
2) The post-apocalyptic drama follows the routine of a typical zombie movie. Only the element of blind-folds is new.
3) John Malkovich – talent wasted
4) The entire blind-folded river journey with two kids is implausible.

CONS –
1) Random misuse of classic Bollywood songs without any context. Legendary songs are forcefully added in various situations.
2) While the supporting cast is great, the lead actors Arunoday Singh and Nidhi Singh are not convincing at all.

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) A political assassination from the perspective of a suave sound recordist and a dumb hooker.
2) Downbeat and disheartening climax. Jack using Sally’s scream in the exploitation film instead of solving the case.
3) Visually stylish film as expected from Brian De Palma. There is obviously a major influence of Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation (1974).

CONS –
1) John Lithgow as Burke: By the end of the movie this Anton Chigurh like character became too significant to be neglected.
