VERDICT – 5/5

PROS –
1) A projectionist & wannabe Sherlock Holmes‘ daydreaming adventure.
2) One of Buster Keaton’s classic with its trademark stunts, optical effects, and in-camera tricks. The scene where Buster is stuck in the movie frame with frequently changing locations is one great cinematic achievement for a 1924 silent film.
3) The hilarious pool game scene.
4) The remarkable daredevil stunts on top of the moving train where Buster grabs a water spout; there is another scene of him landing on a moving car hanging on a roadblock gate.

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) Linda Hunt as the male dwarf Billy Kwan gave a performance of a lifetime. A female actress winning an Oscar for playing a male character is no small achievement. The romance angle is a sub-plot around Billy playing the central character. His final monologue revealing himself as the master puppeteer is extremely moving.
2) L’enfant by Vangelis.
3) A rare movie featuring turbulent politics of 1960s Indonesia, Sukarno, and 30 September Movement.

CONS –
1) It’s a one-time watch boring romantic-war-drama.

QUOTE –
Billy Kwan: I believed in you. I thought you were a man of light. That’s why I gave you those stories you think are so important. I made you see things. I made you feel something about is right. I gave you my trust. So did Jill. I created you.

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) Rick Moranis as Dark Helmet, one of his funniest roles. His unusually giant helmet itself is the biggest source of laughter.
2) In many ways, it’s more entertaining than the original Star-Wars movie. Barf, based on Chewbacca, is doing a better job than Chewbacca did in Star Wars.
