VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) A mockumentary on relationships with familiar elements of a Woody Allen film.
2) Judy Davis as Sally Simmons. Her meltdown scene before going to the opera was one of the best scenes.
3) Juliette Lewis as Rain. A young student who attracted to older men.

CONS –
1) A one-time watch relationship drama for the uninitiated. Nothing strong comes out from this done-to-death plot.

QUOTE –
Sally: It’s the Second Law of Thermodynamics: sooner or later everything turns to shit. That’s my phrasing, not the Encyclopedia Britannica.

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) Dianne Wiest as Holly: The runt of the litter with a happy ending.
2) Woody Allen as Mickey: An infertile divorced man with possible brain tumor going through an existential crisis. This plot was extremely amusing and better than the main plot of three sisters and their vexatious lives.
3) Max von Sydow as Frederick: An eccentric old artist living with his protege in a prototypical studio apartment. His ascetic monologue on TV was fascinating.

CONS –

QUOTE –
Mickey: Why all of a sudden is the sketch dirty?
Ed Smythe: Child molestation is a touchy subject and the affiliates…
Mickey: Read the papers, half the country’s doing it!
Ed Smythe: Yes, but you name names.
Mickey: We never-we don’t name names, we say “The Pope”!

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) A movie following 2 major sub-plots. An accomplished ophthalmologist’s extra-marital affair and a two-bit film-maker trying to start one.
2) Prof. Louis Levy sermons.
3) Woody Allen in his usual self with funny one-liners. Lester’s documentary rough-cut was hilarious.

Verdict – 2/5

Pros –
1) An ordinary story elevated by the performance of Penélope Cruz as María Elena. Notably, her screen time is less than 15 minutes.
2) Though the movie is a generic rom-com, at times it appears as a great satire on characters like Cristina who are confused about their life and sexuality.
3) The first meeting of Juan Antonio with Vicky & Cristina.Brazenly outspoken.

Cons –
1) This primary plot is of little consequences. A one time watch.

Cristina: If you don’t start undressing me soon this is going to turn into a panel discussion.

VERDICT – 5/5

PROS –
1) Generic Woody Allen film. Woody and his profound love with New York City.
2) Woody Allen monologues
3) There is this uncanny resemblance in Woody Allen and Jerry Seinfeld universe. In both universe, New York always plays a central character. In this movie, the character of Isaac played by Woody is a perfect amalgamation of Jerry and George. The story is filled with sarcastic dialogues and quick & casual love relationship.

QUOTE –
Isaac Davis: Why do you think this is funny? You’re going by audience reaction? This is an audience that’s raised on television, their standards have been systematically lowered over the years. These guys sit in front of their sets and the gamma rays eat the white cells of their brains out!
