VERDICT – 5/5

PROS –
1) An anthology movie with a non-linear storyline where paths of different characters cross each other. It’s a Tarantino movie not directed by Tarantino.
2) The influence of Bappi Lahiri’s music in contemporary cinema can’t be undermined. His 80s music is aging like fine-wine.
3) A movie with great star-cast, however, the performance of Vijay Sethupathi stands out.
4) The Tamil instrumental rendition of the Superman Theme played during the mattress flying scene.
5) It’s a must-watch for cinema connoisseur. So far one of the best movie of this year.

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) Great action scenes – continuing the legacy in the 3rd installment of John Wick.
2) Tuco gun trick by John Wick: a subtle homage to an iconic movie.
3) There is a strong element of cassette futurism throughout the high table: typewriters, rotary landline phones, switchboard operator, etc.
4) The movie series will be remembered for its exquisite lingo in the crime world: High table, Deconsecrated, Excommunicado, etc.
5) The return of the Bowery King in the climax.

CONS –
1) Unnecessary Morocco subplot
2) John Wick is a lone wolf. The presence of Halle Berry as his side-kick in Morocco is annoying.

CULT – 1

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) A definitive cult movie by Walter Hill.  The godfather of all modern car-racing games and numerous Hollywood heist movies like Driver (2011), Baby Driver (2017), etc.
2) All the characters are nameless. That’s how brave the director is.
3) High octane car chase scenes
4) Every major and minor character seems the central character of the movie including the Exchange Man.

CONS –
1) A kickass soundtrack is missing. What a shame!

VERDICT – 5/5

PROS –
1) Varun Dhawan’s best role to date. Sriram Raghavan is undisputedly the king of neo-noir in Bollywood.
2) An epic level revenge drama spanning two-decades.
3) Great cast, fast and bold screenplay. Performances of Radhika Apte and Nawaz stands out.
4) Songs: “Judaai” & “Jeena Jeena”

CONS –
1) The plot explores the psychological aspect of revenge where a victim becomes a remorseless perpetrator himself in the rage. That’s where the climactic scene between Jhimli & Raghu fails. It was supposed to sum up the entire movie with subtle expressions and apt music, but it failed.
2) Kumud Mishra as the Inspector is a terrible miscast. His characters’ final meltdown with Laik was supposed to be epic.

Verdict – 4/5

Pros –

1) In the universe of Ethan Hunt, Jack Reacher, Jason Bourne, Jack Ryan, James Bond etc. the aura of John Wick prevails thanks to blade-sharp quotes and long shot action sequences without cut.
2) The movie in the second half gave enough easter-eggs for conspiracy theorists to consider John Wick to be a secret sequel to The Matrix. And why not – Sleek organisation like The Continental, Winston stopping everyone in the park as it was a simulation, and of course Morpheus.
3) 3 super gun-action sequences – Catacombs, Subway and Mirror-Room
4) Presence of Franco Nero

When it turns out you’re lying, I’m gonna spend every nickel of that money to fuck you up. I’m gonna bribe cops to go after you, I’m gonna pay guys to go after your weak fuckin’ crew, and I’m gonna tell all the guys I know that you’re a C.I. and a rat, and I know a lot of people. And after that, you’re gonna wish you listened to me, ’cause your shitty pool hall crime syndicate headquarters is gonna get raided, and your doped-up bitches are gonna get sent back to Laos, and this fuckin’ retard right here is gonna be testifying against you for a reduced sentence, while you’re gettin’ cornholed in your cell by a gang of crackers. ‘Cause from what I’ve heard, the guys that get sent up Concord for killing kids, life’s a motherfucker.
