VERDICT – 3/4

PROS –
1) The film explores the rise of social media and the damage it has caused to society, focusing on its exploitation of its users for financial gain.
2) The docudrama highlights the unfair advantage of the cabal of silicon valley social media platforms run by an army of techies with the help of AI against a human brain not meant to perceive or tackle this onslaught.

CONS –
1) Liberal cry-babies last attempt to influence the 2020 US Presidential Election. They still can’t get over the fact the Hillary was a weak candidate against Trump in the 2016 Election. The third act of the documentary is using classic scare tactics to potential voters conclusively implying that Russia extensively used Facebook to influence the 2016 Election.

“Social media isn’t a tool that’s just waiting to be used. It has its own goals, and it has its own means of pursuing them by using your psychology against you.”

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) A pill that can give its users unpredictable superpowers for 5 minutes. The source of the pill is Art (Jamie Foxx) who was the original subject of a medical experiment, and his daughter who inherited the traits from her father.
2) A high-octane movie in line of similar sci-fi movies like Limitless (2011) & Lucy (2014).
3) It’s an action-packed entertainer which will keep the audiences at the edge of seats.

CONS –
1) The third act is mediocre.

PROS –
1) A 12-year old boy had a night to remember when he discovers his babysitter and her friends performing a murderous satanic ritual at his house.
2) Samara Weaving as the title character is the most memorable thing about the movie.

CONS –
1) Average slasher-comedy where for the first 30 minutes it completely appears like a coming-of-age comedy.

DIRECTOR – 1

CULT – 1

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) Beneath Spike Lee’s usual black emancipation theme, this movie is an intense treasure hunt adventure where 4 US Army veterans return to Vietnam to retrieve the hidden gold. What happens next is the routine story of greed and mistrust.
2) Delroy Lindo as Paul gave the performance of his lifetime.
3) The same actors played their younger-self in the flash-back scenes without any make-up or de-aging effect. This was a bold move from the director.

CONS –
1) 154 minutes running time is not acceptable for this story. The entire first hour was spent on plot built-up.
2) Spike Lee’s obsession with the black community and racism ruins everything. He should try making a stand-alone documentary next time to vent out his bitterness.
3) The primary plot borrows heavily from the back-story of Charade (1963).

PROS –
1) A generic heist movie constitutes of few common acts: recruitment, planning, heist, snafu, & escape. In this movie, the heist part was the easiest while the escape part took an unexpected turn.

PROS –
1) The single continuous 10 minute shot of that car chase scene. It looks straight from a mission from Call Of Duty: Black Ops.

CONS –
1) Saju, Ovi, Neysa – Who is suggesting such weird Indian names to the writer. ?
2) The portrayal of Bangladesh in an extremely bad light as some militia run state. A Black Hawk Down level of city-wide carnage with machine guns, armored vehicles, and helicopters – all for a kid whose gangster father can’t even pay the ransom.
3) Veterans like Pankaj Tripathi is given a blink-and-miss role while Priyanshu Painyuli is playing the crime lord. Huge miscast.

2) Alan Arkin wasted.

1) How Much Land Does a Man Need? Safdie Brothers recreated Leo Tolstoy’s classic tale of greed. A gambling addict risked it all but paid with his life.
2) Adam Sandler as Howard Ratner gave his performance of a lifetime. Never Before.
3) The movie reminds me of Stanley Kubrick’s The Killing (1956), where the audiences are rooting for the protagonist to win but the climactic twist will leave everyone shell-shocked.
