VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) Wild Bill Hickok travels to the wilderness to hunt down a giant white buffalo who is haunting him in his nightmares. In the adventurous hunt, he’s joined by an Indian Chief called Crazy Horse, who is out there to avenge his daughter’s death.
2) The shootout with Whistling Jack Kileen in the snowy mountains is the highlight of the movie.
3) In the words of director J. Lee Thompson, “It’s a Moby Dick of the west,”. It’s an enjoyable western-adventure with slight elements of a monster movie like Godzilla, Jaws, etc.

CONS –
1) The first half is slow with only a few action scenes. The climactic showdown saved the movie.

QUOTE –
Crazy Horse: The whites have no honor. White man wants death, comes out of season.
Wild Bill Hickok: That’s a thing called progress.
Crazy Horse: A thing called greed.

The Cowboys (1972)

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) Young schoolboys hired as cowboys for a cattle ride took revenge of their mentor/employer.
2) Bruce Dern played the role of a compelling villain especially during his duel with John Wayne.

CONS –
1) This movie is gloomy even by conservative standards. John Wayne played a rough rancher with no nuisance even when dealing with teenage kids.
2) The death of John Wayne’s character was unexpected and watching as a fan, it was very distressing to see him die on-screen.

QUOTE –
Jebediah Nightlinger: I regret trifling with married women. I’m thoroughly ashamed at cheating at cards. I deplore my occasional departures from the truth. Forgive me for taking your name in vain, my Saturday drunkenness, my Sunday sloth. Above all, forgive me for the men I’ve killed in anger … and those I am about to.

Blazing Saddles (1974)

CULT – 0

VERDICT – 2/5

PROS –
1) Mel Brooks in one scene as an Indian Chief speaking Yiddish.
2) Few good racist jokes

CONS –
1) Cleavon Little as Sheriff Bart – not the funniest actor to play the lead.
2) Unlike Airplane! (1980), this slapstick comedy does not stand the test of time.

QUOTE –
Bart: Well, can’t you see that’s the last act of a desperate man?
Howard Johnson: We don’t care if it’s the first act of “Henry V” .
