VERDICT – 3/4

PROS –
1) Peter Bogdanovich gave a fitting tribute to a genius actor of physical comedy and a forgotten pioneer of cinema. The first part of the documentary provide his complete personal biography while the later half highlights some his best works in the 1920s.
2) Watching this documentary makes us realise how influential Buster Keaton’s work is not just in the history of cinema but cartoon too.

QUOTE –
“Johnny Knoxville: It’s amazing how timeless he is and that type of physical comedy will never be unfunny. It was funny then, it’s funny now, and it’ll be funny in a 100 years. And how many film-makers can you say that about.”

VERDICT – 1/5

PROS –
1) Count Dracula and Van Helsing squabbling over the “final word”.
2) The “staking” scene.

CONS –
1) Not a great parody movie for a 90s movie. Maybe around the 1960s, it would’ve been a laugh-riot.
2) Instead of being a good parody, the movie is quite a literal adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula with a couple of good jokes.

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) Rick Moranis as Dark Helmet, one of his funniest roles. His unusually giant helmet itself is the biggest source of laughter.
2) In many ways, it’s more entertaining than the original Star-Wars movie. Barf, based on Chewbacca, is doing a better job than Chewbacca did in Star Wars.

1) A Mel Brooks classic horror-comedy in all its glory.
2) The blind man skit with Gene Hackman.
3) Marty Feldman as Igor deserves an Oscar for his role.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: You know, I’m a rather brilliant surgeon. Perhaps I can help you with that hump.

VERDICT – 2/5

PROS –
1) Mel Brooks in one scene as an Indian Chief speaking Yiddish.
2) Few good racist jokes

CONS –
1) Cleavon Little as Sheriff Bart – not the funniest actor to play the lead.
2) Unlike Airplane! (1980), this slapstick comedy does not stand the test of time.

QUOTE –
Bart: Well, can’t you see that’s the last act of a desperate man?
Howard Johnson: We don’t care if it’s the first act of “Henry V” .
