VERDICT – 5/5

PROS –
1) Varun Dhawan’s best role to date. Sriram Raghavan is undisputedly the king of neo-noir in Bollywood.
2) An epic level revenge drama spanning two-decades.
3) Great cast, fast and bold screenplay. Performances of Radhika Apte and Nawaz stands out.
4) Songs: “Judaai” & “Jeena Jeena”

CONS –
1) The plot explores the psychological aspect of revenge where a victim becomes a remorseless perpetrator himself in the rage. That’s where the climactic scene between Jhimli & Raghu fails. It was supposed to sum up the entire movie with subtle expressions and apt music, but it failed.
2) Kumud Mishra as the Inspector is a terrible miscast. His characters’ final meltdown with Laik was supposed to be epic.

VERDICT – 5/5

PROS –
1) Ayushman playing “Teri Galiyon Mein” on piano before discovering the dead body. This scene can’t be executed in a more better way. The song is probably Anil Dhawan’s best-known song and the lyrics match the situation perfectly.
2) Homage music: All in all, the entire first hour is a living homage to Anil Dhawan. From the flashback from his 70s movies to songs like “Guzar Jaye Din”, “Ye Jeevan Hai” played at his character’s funeral. Beethoven’s 5th Symphony played during second murder.
3) Sriram Raghavan managed to pull a Coenish thriller where every next scene depends on the decision made by the characters at that moment which keeps the story unpredictable till the last minute.
4) Though the climax is left open-ended for audiences interpretation, in a story full of morally bankrupt characters making selfish choices, one can clearly guess the obvious.
5) End credits montage is a fitting tribute to the contribution of the piano in Bollywood.

Verdict – 0/5

Pros –
1) Desi Entertainment with larger than life protagonist
2) Inspector Daya reprising his character from C.I.D.

Cons –
1) A simple pot-boiler cliched predictable story with repeated catch-phrases.
2) Other than the “Singham Chant” from Part – I, the music sucks.
3) Wasting talent of Kareena / Anupam Kher / Manjrekar.
