PROS –
1) Sebastian Medina killed his adulteress wife and adulterer brother in his castle’s torture chamber. History is now repeating itself in the Medina family when his son Nicholas Medina is getting similar disloyalty from his wife and friend.
2) Top-notch macabre horror. Vincent Price’s performance single-handedly takes the movie to another level.
3) The plot-twist of Barbara Steele coming out of the tomb alive was unexpected. Her frightful eyes in the final horrifying scene being trapped in the iron maiden, is one blood-chilling climax.

PROS –
1) A scientist died leaving his unfinished humanoid in the Gothic mansion full of steampunk equipments. He’s brought into the town’s community by a woman and soon he becomes the talk of the town attracting new friends and foes.
2) Tim Burton’s trademark gothic protagonist straight out of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. In the movie, Burton created 2 distinct worlds. While Edward Scissorhands is dark & gothic, the town is vividly colorful.
3) It’s basically a bedtime fairy-tale of “a beauty and a beast” told by an elderly woman to her granddaughter. The theme is similar to King Kong, The Phantom of the Opera, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, etc.

1) A true steampunk sci-fi story from Jules Verne.
2) Robur – a great gentleman villain with noble intentions but an evil method. In fact by the end of the movie he doesn’t even appear as the bad guy. His grand plan of world peace at any cost reflects his grand character.
3) The audiences will be awed with the amazing airship Albatross with Victorian sci-fi gadgets.
4) Decent special effects for a 1961 movie.
