1) This movie belongs to a certain group of films which includes Rosemary’s Baby, The Shining and most recently The Witch. Evil exists in shadows and it prevails eventually.
2) Toni Collette as Annie gave the performance of a lifetime. Her emotional paranoia of a mother losing her child is extraordinary.
3) Unsettling third act.
4) Joan plot-twist
1) First one-hour is slow and without much action (except Charlie’s death) like a family drama.
Annie: DON’T you swear at me, you little shit! Don’t you EVER raise your voice at me! I am your mother! You understand? All I do is worry and slave and defend you, and all I get back is that fucking face on your face! So full of disdain and resentment and always so annoyed!
