VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) A wild bunch led by Pike Bishop on a task given by Mexican Federales to steal US Army weapons shipment, while the US railroad is hunting Pike’s gang with the help of his former ally, Deke Thornton.
2) A groundbreaking Sam Peckinpah’s western for its technical aspect. Fascinating cinematography with quick-cut editing and slow-motion action scenes.
3) The movie features 3 massive action sequences. The first one is the opening shootout at the railroad station; the second is the train-heist, and the third (also the climactic) sequence is the mother of all violent shootout with a staggering body count.

CONS –
N/A

1) John Wayne as Reuben J. “Rooster” Cogburn – the one-eyed U.S. Marshal.
2) The Coen Bros. remake was quite unnecessary as it added nothing new to this version. The original is perfect.
3) A movie full of colorful characters which include “Lucky” Ned Pepper played by Robert Duvall.

Cons –
1) La Boeuf‘s death was unexpected.
