VERDICT – 1/5

PROS –
1) The bike chase sequence in scenic Colombia.
2) Some good hand-to-hand action in the Catacombs fight scene
3) The entire de-agification VFX is a big success.

CONS –
1) The USP of this movie is director Ang Lee. However, the story is super dated and predictable. It’s every 90s sci-fi super soldier movies ever.

Henry: If they could clone a person, you’d think they’d clone more doctors or scientists, not me. They could’ve cloned Nelson Mandela.
Dani: Nelson Mandela couldn’t kill a man on a moving train from two kilometers away.

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) The nothingness and emptiness of the space observed by a mad astronaut and his son; both fighting their solitude.
2) The breathtaking LRV chase sequence got to be one of the highlights of this movie.
3) Colonies on Moon and Mars, space baboons, etc. This sci-fi universe has some promising sub-plots.

CONS –
1) It appears like a wannabe Interstellar (2014) with a gloomy vibe throughout the movie.

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) This movie would have ended as just another sci-fi horror movie without the character of Mrs. Carmody [played by Marcia Gay Harden]. The entire movie came into life, when this bible-bashing boss-bitch character took the central stage, leading her minions like Jack in Lord of the Flies.
2) Lovecraftian giant creatures from a parallel universe came into our world through some portal thanks to a failed military scientific experiment.
3) The climax is unsettling. Just unsettling.

Ollie: As a species, we’re fundamentally insane. Put more than two of us in a room, we pick sides and start dreaming up reasons to kill one another. Why do you think we invented politics and religion?

Amanda Dunfrey: People are basically good; decent. My god, David, we’re a civilized society.
David Drayton: Sure, as long as the machines are working and you can dial 911. But you take those things away, you throw people in the dark, you scare the shit out of them – no more rules.

3) One can find a resemblance to this movie with Twilight Zone‘s episode Third From the Sun.
