VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) A young couple’s relation is turned upside down after a billionaire offers one million dollars to them for one night with the wife.
2) Robert Redford plays the suave billionaire John Gage, who believes everything’s for sale in this world for a price.
3) Scintillating Demi Moore in her prime.

CONS –
1) While the first act is fast and rich, the remaining movie is a formulaic sappy drama without any interesting outcome.

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) Investigative journalism at its best. The story of how two young reporters from “The Washington Post” uncovered the details of the Watergate scandal that leads to President Richard Nixon’s resignation.
2) A landmark movie in newspaper-movie genre documenting a significant event in US history.

CONS –
1) A boring movie for an average viewer. Alan J. Pakula could’ve just made a documentary.

QUOTE –
Deep Throat: Oh, I can’t tell you that.
Bob Woodward: But you could tell me that.
Deep Throat: No, I have to do this my way. You tell me what you know, and I’ll confirm. I’ll keep you in the right direction if I can, but that’s all. Just… follow the money.

VERDICT – 5/5

PROS –
1) A classic caper from the team of George Roy Hill, Paul Newman, and Robert Redford who gave us Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969).
2) A small-time con-man [Robert Redford] took the revenge of his murdered partner from a Chicago crime boss, with the help of a veteran con-man [Paul Newman]. The movie starts slow however, the plan is so elaborate that by the time we reach the climax even the audiences will be left dumb-struck.
3) The innocent-looking waitress was the notorious assassin Salino all along. That was one shocking twist.
4) Full marks to David S. Ward for the brilliant original story.
5) Classic piano-based soundtrack featuring music of Scott Joplin including “The Entertainer”.
6) One particular aspect of this movie is the use of painted title cards before each chapter viz “The Players”, “The Set-Up,” “The Hook,” “The Tale,” “The Wire,” “The Shut-Out” and “The Sting.”

PROS –
1) The epic finale of the 11-year-old journey culminating with the 22nd film. A journey started by Jon Favreau, led by Joss Whedon, and concluded by the Russo brothers. A rare grand emotional movie event of this generation.
2) The time travel plot enabled the screenwriters to add all the good & bad, major & minor characters from the franchise to make one final cameo in this grand finale.
3) Captain America lifting Mjolnir is got to be the most epic scene of this movie. A scene 4 years in the making.
4) A fulfilling climax for Steve Rogers.
5) Fun filled storyline with great comic-relief from Ant-Man and Thor “The Dude” Lebowski.
6) An epic finale needs an epic sacrifice. It had to be Tony Stark.

Three Days of the Condor (1975)

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) Max von Sydow as Joubert is clearly the best character from this story.
2) The Bourne Series is heavily influenced by this movie where a CIA agent is at large escaping from his own organization.

CONS –
1) Entire Faye Dunaway plot was formulaic and unnecessary.
2) The main problem with this movie is the title character being a desk-jockey and not a field operative. This means the audience cannot expect great action scenes. This is where Jason Bourne got an upper hand.

QUOTE –
Joubert: It will happen this way. You may be walking. Maybe the first sunny day of the spring. And a car will slow beside you, and a door will open, and someone you know, maybe even trust, will get out of the car. And he will smile, a becoming smile. But he will leave open the door of the car and offer to give you a lift.
