Mohalla Assi (2015)

STORY – 1
DIRECTOR – 1
ACTOR – 1
MUSIC – 0
CULT – 1

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) Chandra Prakash Dwivedi is not just another director. The guy clearly did a lot of homework before making this socio-political satire on one of the oldest city of the world.
2) The razor-sharp dialogues will equally offend and please the Hindu community.
3) The character of Gaya Singh was clearly speaking from the directors POV and sparing no one.
4) Sunny Deol convincingly played an unconventional character.

CONS –
N/A

Batla House (2019)

STORY – 1
DIRECTOR – 0
ACTOR – 0
MUSIC – 0
CULT – 0

VERDICT – 1/5

PROS –
1) Most commercially viable time for a project like Batla House Encounter when the entire nation is drenched in nationalist fervor.

CONS –
1) Absent supporting cast. Apart from Ravi Kishan, hardly any actor is well known.
2) “O Saki Saki” remix can only get cheap views on YouTube, otherwise the entire soundtrack is garbage. Background score is mainly ripping off Hans Zimmer from The Dark Knight (2008)

Mukkabaaz (2017)

STORY – 1
DIRECTOR – 1
ACTOR – 1
MUSIC – 1
CULT – 1

Verdict – 5/5

Pros –
1) The plight and love-story of a small-town struggling boxer trying to overcome unemployment, casteism & faulty sports infrastructure.
2) Jimmy Shergill & Ravi Kishan first encounter.
3) Shravan’s outburst on his superior officer. The most fulfilling scene of the movie. Evils of casteism are seamlessly added to the plot. While Sanjay Kumar is facing casteist jibe from Bhagwan Das Mishra, Shravan is facing a revengeful treatment from a lower caste officer.
4) Anurag Kashyap smoothly included beef-lynching and jingoism in this sports drama without any fuss – genius.
5) Juicy dialogues along with great music is always a USP of Kashyap’s movies. Brave soundtrack.

Cons –
1) Less screen-time to Ravi Kishan.
2) Rocky inspired climax.
