CULT – 1

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) Spooky and funny. Possibly one of the best Bollywood movie of this genre. Great debut for Amar Kaushik.
2) Supporting cast: Pankaj Tripathi as Rudra got the best lines, and Vijay Raaz cameo was spot-on.
3) Shraddha Kapoor as the unnamed femme fatale. The final plot-twist involving her was remarkable.

CONS –
1) The soundtrack is forgettable but who cares. The songs and dances are added just to promote the movie as a regular Bollywood movie.

Cons –

1) Rabidly alt-left movie dismissing the current state of Indian democracy.

Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017)

CULT – 0

Verdict – 1/5

Pros –

1) Rajkumar Rao as Vidrohi – the only character with substance
2) There is a Karan Johar Universe of Kapoors, Singhanias and Malhotras. The neo-bollywood carved a market for Mishras, Trivedis and Dubeys thanks to the mega success of Tanu Weds Manu. This movie is part of the same vaudeville.

Cons –

1) Primary weak plot
2) Forgettable soundtrack

1) Kangna Ranaut Performance – One Woman Show – One of the best in past decade by any Bollywood actress. Her screen dominance reminds me of Rekha.

3) Music – Amit Trivedi’s best since Dev-D.(Including the remix “Hungama Ho Gaya”.)
4) The Delhi Factor
5) End Credits
