VERDICT – 4/4

PROS –
1) The horrors of War in those trenches. Definitive First World War documentary.
2) This documentary is a triumph, an homage to the greatest generation of Britain. A story much needed to be told.
3) Initial 25 minutes in Black&White, snapping to colour the moment the troops landed the battlefields and switching back to Black&White once the war ends.
4) The intense close combat sequence narrated by soldiers with the first-hand experience through “The War Illustrated” magazine.
5) End credits: “Mademoiselle from Armentières”

CONS –

“The only thing that really did annoy me was, when I went back to work after I’d got demobilised, I went down the stores, and the bloke behind the counter was a bloke who I knew. He said, “Where have you been ? On nights ?”

The Hobbit The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

Verdict – 0/5

PROS –
1) Being the final chapter of “The Hobbit” trilogy.
2) Confirming that Bilbo’s quest was a disaster with a sad ending and it’ll be concluded by Frodo.
3) End credits song by Billy Boyd –  “The Last Goodbye”.

CONS –
1) The Title – It was supposed to be “There and Back Again”. The Battle of the Five Armies makes no sense and didn’t justify the title for an epic conclusion.
2) 11 minutes for Smaug ? The “incident with the dragon” lasted less than the discussion.
3) Too much screen time for Ryan Gage as Alfrid.
4) The movie is the worst entry in the entire series. The movie appears hushed. The CGI, the screenplay etc was mediocre and Peter Jackson wrapped up production to conclude the series for the sake of it.
