VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) High production value and grand set designs.
2) The intriguing primary concept of a post-apocalyptic dystopian colony run by computers.
3) Michael Bay’s The Island (2005) borrowed heavily from this film.
4) Box, the robot. This fusion of C-3PO & R2-D2 is no cute android.
5) Jenny Agutter as Jessica 6 – one breathtaking femme fatale.

CONS –
1) Disappointingly trashy CGI for a 1976 movie.
2) For what purpose the computers were breeding humans in 2274 AD? What caused the apocalypse? Some questions are never answered.

Box: Fish, plankton, sea greens… protein from the sea!

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) The movie is supposed to be a no-brainer entertaining comedy and that’s what it is.
2) It’s a Mike Myers show from the start to the end.
3) Mini-Me – the equally evil clone of Dr. Evil.
4) The entire “Dick Rocket” joke.

Austin: I can’t believe Vanessa, my bride, my one true love, the woman who taught me the beauty of monogamy, was a fembot all along. Wait a tick, that means I’m single again! Oh behave!

Verdict – 3/5

Pros –

1) Agatha Christie’s story remains the backbone of this movie.
2) Huge ensemble cast.
3) Ingrid Bergman as Greta Ohlsson – her broken English and timid character is first-rate.

Cons –

1) Hercule Poirot will remain the most annoying character ever created in English literature and Albert Finney can’t do anything to fix it.

Foscarelli: Hey, what are you reading, Mister Beddoes?
Beddoes: I am reading “Love’s Captive,” by Mrs. Arabella Richardson.
Foscarelli: Is it about sex?
Beddoes: No, it’s about 10:30, Mister Foscarelli.
