VERDICT – 5/5

PROS –
1) A vengeful mother taking revenge for her son’s death from a group of campers. An iconic movie in ‘cabin in the woods’ horror movie format.
2) The climactic scene at the lake where Jason’s decomposing corpse attacks Alice. The climax is left ambiguous where we don’t know whether it was a dream sequence or reality.
3) Betsy Palmer convincingly played the role of Mrs. Voorhees, the deranged mother of Jason.
4) Overlay of Evil / Main Title by Harry Manfredini, though it heavily inspired by Bernard Herrmann’s famous The Murder from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho (1960).

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) A riveting small-town murder-mystery from Clint Eastwood.
2) Sean Penn as James “Jimmy” Markum led the pack playing the grieving father of a murdered daughter hell-bent for revenge. The scene where he discovers his dead daughter and he’s restrained by the cops is extremely moving.
3) Marcia Gay Harden as Celeste – Apart from Sean Penn, her performance as the timid scared wife of Dave Boyle is worth noticing.
4) Eli Wallach as Mr. Loonie – The sheer presence of this legend on screen even for a minute is huge.

CONS –
