VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) The love-life of 2 sisters’ devastated by their respective love interests. One man who kept his promise and the other who failed. It’s fascinating to see how much the modern-day rom-coms are influenced by Jane Austen’s classic novels.
2) A huge round of applause for Ang Lee & Emma Thompson for such a delightful adaptation of the classic novel. Emma’s performance was equally gracious.
3) Such a great ensemble of actors. The stoic performances of Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson stand out.

QUOTE –
Marianne: Always resignation and acceptance. Always prudence and honour and duty. Elinor, where is your heart?
Elinor Dashwood: What do you know of my heart? What do you know of anything but your own suffering. For weeks, Marianne, I’ve had this pressing on me without being at liberty to speak of it to a single creature. It was forced on me by the very person whose prior claims ruined all my hope. I have endured her exultations again and again whilst knowing myself to be divided from Edward forever. Believe me, Marianne, had I not been bound to silence I could have provided proof enough of a broken heart, even for you.

Carnage (2011)

CULT – 1

Verdict – 4/5

Pros –
1) It’s a stage-play. Even with cuts and editing, this 80 minutes comedy-drama looks like a play.
2) Characters gradually dropping the facade. Except for Christoph Waltz’s character, all 3 characters were pretending to be someone else at the beginning of the film and as the film progresses the true self emerges.

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) It seems scientifically accurate with recent similar outbreaks of H1N1 and SARS.
2) Climax explaining the source of the virus.
3) This movie appears like a prequel of those post-apocalyptic movies and TV series where a deadly virus had swept Earth’s population.

CONS –
1) This movie is not an action-adventure disaster movie but only a scientific mock-drill of possible events in a virus outbreak.

Verdict – 5/5

Pros –

1) The Structure of film is fascinating. 3 Acts – all before major launch .
2) Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman : I failed to recognize her.
3) Jobs-Sculley Confrontation scene in the 2nd Act.
4) Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak – delight as always.
5) The movie captures the iconic moments of technology. The music , adapted screenplay is oscar worthy and much better than “The Social Network”.

Cons –

1) The “Lisa” sub-plot.

Quote –

Steve Wozniak: I’m sorry to be blunt, but that happens to be the truth. The Lisa was a failure, the Macintosh was a failure. I don’t like talking like this, but I am tired of being Ringo when I know I was John.
