Glass (2019)

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) M. Night Shyamalan saga of believers and non-believers. The comic-book aficionado among the audiences wants Mr. Glass to be correct like a believer waiting for the second coming of Jesus Christ to be true.
2) James McAvoy did most of the leg-work in this movie. Just like in the prequel, his transformation from one personality to the other was remarkable

CONS –
1) The aura of the entire trilogy was diminished by some “deep-state” kind of organization trying to discourage and suppress any super-hero activities.
2) Less screen-time for David Dunn.
3) M. Night Shyamalan became too cautious to exhibit the super-power showdown of The Overseer and The Beast. While this strategy worked in Unbreakable (2000), this time, however, audiences were waiting for a grand boss fight. This movie also lacks the grand climactic plot-twist which is now a trademark to any Shyamalan movie.

QUOTE –
Mrs. Price: Didn’t you tell me there was a showdown at the end of a limited edition? How come you didn’t know how it was gonna end?
Mr. Glass: Oh, Mama. This is not a limited edition. This was an origin story the whole time.

Atomic Blonde (2017)

ACTOR – 1
MUSIC – 1
CULT – 0

Verdict – 3/5

Pros –
1) John Woo redefined stylized action movies 30 years ago. David Leitch is adding a new chapter in this genre. Neon lightings, retro wave music, hand-to-hand combat, single sequence shot are key elements of his direction.
2) End Credits : Under Pressure – Queen ft. David Bowie
3) James McAvoy as Percival – his hungover, show-up-late, don’t-know-which-way-is-up act.

Cons –
1) Mediocre cold-war spy-thriller. Style over substance.

CULT – 1

Verdict – 5/5

Pros –

1) An ordinary movie catapulted by the final scene. The concept of Split personalities is known and explored numerous times. However the character of “The Beast” with superpower strength and bulletproof skin separates this movie from a psychological thriller. The final scene with David Dunn vindicates the entire plot.
2) The courage of M. Night Shyamalan returning to make the sequel and hiding it all along.
3) This mainly serves as an anthology film in the MNS universe and the sequel will be a real treat for all Unbreakable fans.

Verdict – 3/5

Pros –

1) The Villain & it’s mythology
2) Kickass Opening sequence
3) Justice done with all characters with ample amount of screen-time (which includes Wolverine’s short & effective cameo)
4) Boss fight
5) Just like the previous film, Peter Maximoff / Quicksilver stole the show
6) Best superhero movie of the 2016 so far : better than both “Civil War” & “Dawn Of Justice”.

Cons –

1) “The Erik Lehnsherr Conundrum” : the story-line is revolving on the same plot from past 3 movies.
2) Honestly, Oscar Isaac can’t be identified in the movie. Why not make a 100 % CGI character ? Why studios are wasting money on actors when the make-up & CGI will overshadow every possible expression of the actor.
