VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) A car tyre mysteriously comes to life and uses its demonic power for a murderous rampage.
2) It’s a meta horror-comedy where we see group of people is watching the live movie as it progresses. A one of its kind experimental movie.

The Babysitter (2017)

VERDICT – 2/5

PROS –
1) A 12-year old boy had a night to remember when he discovers his babysitter and her friends performing a murderous satanic ritual at his house.
2) Samara Weaving as the title character is the most memorable thing about the movie.

CONS –
1) Average slasher-comedy where for the first 30 minutes it completely appears like a coming-of-age comedy.

Cole: I don’t need a babysitter anymore.

Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead (2014)

STORY – 1
DIRECTOR – 1
ACTOR – 1
MUSIC – 0
CULT – 0

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) The story begins from where we left last time. Herzog and his zombie army attack a sleepy Norwegian town where they got retaliation from Martin and his Russian dead army.
2) Unlike it’s predecessor, this movie dives into horror-comedy from the very beginning. The nerdy but equally fiery Zombie Squad doubles the fun.

CONS –
1) The movie is undoubtedly enjoyable however Tommy Wirkola this time borrowed too much from Edgar Wright.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)

VERDICT – 1/5

PROS –
1) A teenage high-school girl got informed that she’s a Chosen One, destined to kill vampires.
2) Some good acrobatic fight scenes.

CONS –
1) This coming-of-age vampire movie is all style over substance. Joss Whedon seems too much inspired by An American Werewolf in London (1981) and tried to recreate something similar.
2) A one time watch horror-comedy without a single memorable character. The boss villain Lothos (played by Rutger Hauer) was equally lame.

PROS –
1) A dead couple trying to drive away the new owners of their home, take help from a mischievous spirit called Betelgeuse.
2) Though the title character got very brief screen-time, the character is quite fascinating.
3) Notable set-design and special effect.
4) “The Banana Boat Song” and “Jump in the Line (Shake, Senora)” – Harry Belafonte

VERDICT – 1/5

PROS –
1) Count Dracula and Van Helsing squabbling over the “final word”.
2) The “staking” scene.

CONS –
1) Not a great parody movie for a 90s movie. Maybe around the 1960s, it would’ve been a laugh-riot.
2) Instead of being a good parody, the movie is quite a literal adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula with a couple of good jokes.

PROS –
1) A landmark movie in the horror-comedy genre.
2) Undead Jack‘s make-up is overwhelmingly impressive.
3) The iconic Werewolf transformation scene. It’s the best Werewolf transformation I’ve seen in any movie.
4) Cannot find a better use of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Bad Moon Rising” song.

1) A Mel Brooks classic horror-comedy in all its glory.

Slice (2018)

STORY – 1
DIRECTOR – 0
ACTOR – 1
MUSIC – 0
CULT – 1

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) A legendarium kind of universe where human, ghost, witches, and werewolves co-exist. Huge potential if developed as a TV Series with a creative director at the helm.
2) 80s look.

CONS –
1) Plot with great potential but mediocre execution from the director Austin Vesely.

QUOTE –
Sadie: I’m gonna tell you a story about a ghost, a werewolf, and a pretty shitty pizza place. It all started, when the werewolf came back to town.

Stree (2018)

STORY – 1
DIRECTOR – 1
ACTOR – 1
MUSIC – 0
CULT – 1

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) Spooky and funny. Possibly one of the best Bollywood movie of this genre. Great debut for Amar Kaushik.
2) Supporting cast: Pankaj Tripathi as Rudra got the best lines, and Vijay Raaz cameo was spot-on.
3) Shraddha Kapoor as the unnamed femme fatale. The final plot-twist involving her was remarkable.

CONS –
1) The soundtrack is forgettable but who cares. The songs and dances are added just to promote the movie as a regular Bollywood movie.
