VERDICT – 1/5

PROS –
1) Stoya as Nimani

CONS –
1) Average AI futuristic movie with forced dystopian undertones of socialism without any consequences. A classic exhibition of style over substance.
2) Lazar Bodrosa is clearly heavily inspired by the visual theme of Blade Runner (1982). An average episode of Black Mirror or Electric Dreams is far better than this 85 minutes long abomination.

VERDICT – 4/5

PROS –
1) High production value and grand set designs.
2) The intriguing primary concept of a post-apocalyptic dystopian colony run by computers.
3) Michael Bay’s The Island (2005) borrowed heavily from this film.
4) Box, the robot. This fusion of C-3PO & R2-D2 is no cute android.
5) Jenny Agutter as Jessica 6 – one breathtaking femme fatale.

CONS –
1) Disappointingly trashy CGI for a 1976 movie.
2) For what purpose the computers were breeding humans in 2274 AD? What caused the apocalypse? Some questions are never answered.

Verdict – 4/5

Pros –
1) Some great action sequences at Klendathu, the Arachnids’ home planet especially the scene where Rico fights a tanker bug.
2) Average main actors but good character development – this movie is like a Rated-R plot in the Star Trek universe with great CGI. The movie itself is set in a weird dystopian future where a fascist government is running propaganda videos 24/7.
3) Even with a 100+ million budget, the movie got a weird low production cost appearance like an 80s space movie which is actually giving it the cult status.
4) The audiences will have no sympathy for the main villains – the bugs.

Cons –

Verdict – 1/5

Pros –
1) Michael Shannon as Captain Beatty in this bibliophile’s dystopian nightmare

Cons –
1) Adaptation of this Ray Bradbury’s magnum opus was never easy. It’s the most influential dystopian novel after 1984 and Brave New World. But if we just talk about this movie adaptation, beneath all the sci-fi tech glitter, it’s worse than any Black Mirror episode.
2) Apart from Michael Shannon, the rest cast is stale.

Verdict – 2/5

Pros –
1) Intriguing dystopian plot. A near future where crime is legal for a day.
2) Decent background score

Cons –
1) The direction is awful. No proper character development. Neither horror nor slasher.
2) The right story was not picked to start the series. The national insanity was reduced to a house-break-in.
