1) Two divorcee friends poles apart from each other living together for 2 weeks. One is a reckless sportswriter and the other is an emotional person with OCD.
2) The well-written screenplay covers 3 major sequences from the first Friday gambling night to the third gambling night.
3) Walter Matthau as Oscar got the most colorful dialogues. His sarcastic phone conversations with his unseen wife are priceless.
Murray: A suicide telegram? Who sends a suicide telegram?
Oscar Madison: Felix, the nut, that’s who! Can you imagine getting a thing like that? She even had to tip the kid a quarter.
