Velvet Buzzsaw (2019)

STORY – 1
DIRECTOR – 1
ACTOR – 1
MUSIC – 0
CULT – 0

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) Pretentious and greedy art aficionados got themselves in a vicious trap of cursed paintings.

CONS –
1) Quite a lazy title for the movie where the Velvet Buzzsaw is of little significance that too for only one character.
2) Unnecessary sub-plots. Instead of working on the primary supernatural theme, the entire first hour is wasted in art exhibition politics.

1) Most uplifting Black Mirror season so far. Less disturbing, more entertaining.

4) Metalhead: The 4-legged robotic dog will go down in history as a serious competition to T-800 and Omnidroid
5) Black Museum: Dr. Dawson subplot is better than rest of the episode.

Cons –
1) Arkangel: Hazards of advance technology as already explored in season 3

CULT – 1

VERDICT– 4/5

PROS –
1) Definitive Aubrey Plaza film. A must watch for millennials.
2) A young psychotic woman goes to Los Angeles to befriend a social media influencer only to discover how shallow her idol really is.
3) A modern-day horror tale of social media obsessed people chasing pseudo-celebrities and seeking validation from strangers in the form of likes and emojis.
4) The climactic #iamingrid is even more horrifying as a sociopath like Ingrid who tried committing suicide is venerated as a role-model and inspirations by millions. The irony is frightening.

Bridge of Spies (2015)

STORY – 1
DIRECTOR – 0
ACTOR – 0
MUSIC – 0
CULT – 0

VERDICT – 1/5

PROS –
1) An insurance lawyer sent to Berlin to negotiate with the Soviet Union to release a U.S. Air Force pilot in exchange for a Soviet KGB spy. The story from Coen Brothers sounds promising but there not much meat onto it.
2) Janusz Kamiński’s cinematography with some good wide-angle shots is the only saving grace for this movie.
3) The final scene at the Glienicke Bridge.

CONS –
1) Predictable twist and thrills. Anyone interested should watch the 2 minutes trailer and save himself from the ordeal.
2) This movie is a definitive Steven Spielberg’s Oscar bait with Tom Hanks. Another run-of-the-mill period drama.
3) Weak supporting cast. Even Mark Rylance’s performance as Rudolf Abel is overrated.
4) Tediously long with 141 minutes running time.
