Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017)

STORY – 1
DIRECTOR – 1
ACTOR – 1
MUSIC – 0
CULT – 0

VERDICT – 3/5

PROS –
1) Bhumi Pednekar as Sugandha completely overshadowed Ayushmann Khurrana in this arrange-cum-love-cum-arrange marriage drama.
2) Seema Bhargava & Brijendra Kala – these 2 actors have now become the quintessential part of any movie with the small-town middle-class DNA
3) Opening Bollywood flashback collage.

CONS –
1) Over the top climax – The plight of Erectile Dysfunction was ridiculed to a funny sub-plot
2) Now, these movies are becoming more and more predictable – arrange marriage fiasco in the first half, a jagrata remix song before intermission, hero’s sidekick, and loud climax.

Toilet – Ek Prem Katha (2017)

STORY – 1
DIRECTOR – 1
ACTOR – 1
MUSIC – 0
CULT – 1

Verdict – 4/5

Pros –

1) A movie 70 years late. This should’ve been made 70 years ago with mandatory viewing all across India.
2) Akshay Kumar – his jugaads and his fake-branded clothes
3) Divyendu Sharma – one of the most underutilized actor

Cons –

1) At times, the movie appears to avoid criticizing the govt and blame open defecation problem entirely to the people which makes it look like a govt sponsored ad.

Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015)

STORY – 1
DIRECTOR – 1
ACTOR – 1
MUSIC – 1
CULT – 1

VERDICT – 5/5

PROS –
1) Part of the “New Wave” of movies in Indian Cinema where small-town directors are fearlessly canvasing small-town stories instead of copying Hollywood blockbusters. It’s good to see YRF joining the band-wagon.
2) Fast-paced screenplay
3) Soundtrack including Moh Moh Ke Dhaage and The 90s song.

CONS –
1) Nothing left to watch if you’ve seen the trailer.
