VERDICT – 2/5

PROS –
1) An Osho like Guru running a drug-fueled mission to bring Sat Yug post-nuclear winter. The plan is executed by a Muhammad bin Qasim fanatic, completing his dream of Gazwa-E-Hind.
2) Full of smart references like Dawood Ibrahim, Karan Johar, RGV, Kangana Ranaut, Divya Bharti, etc.

CONS –
1) The entire Kenya sub-plot doesn’t add anything to the story.
2) The cliffhanger ending is pointless as all the secrets are already out. Also, with most the main character being dead, what’s left for next season?
3) The mob-lynching plot is clearly part of Anurag Kashyap’s personal outrage rather than adding anything to the story.

VERDICT – 2/5

PROS –
1) A new age romance which is a soft reboot of Tanu Weds Manu (2011) with elements of Dev D (2009).
2) Saurabh Sachdeva as Kakaji – Best outcome of this movie
3) “Daryaa” by Ammy Virk, Shahid Mallya

CONS –
1) Meaningless movie title.
2) Nothing extraordinary for the fans of Anurag Kashyap.

VERDICT – 2/5

PROS –
1) It was brave of Danis Tanovic to make a movie on this issue.
2) Great supporting cast – Adil Hussain’s performance stands out.

CONS –
1) Good story, mediocre screenplay and editing. The movie looks more like a stale documentary.

Verdict – 0/5

Pros –
1) Some good non-CGI hand to hand combat scenes.
2) The only scene worth mentioning is when the masked vigilante decides to wait for the green traffic signal while being chased by goons.

Cons –
1) Kick-Ass meets The Karate Kid
2) 153 minutes for a movie whose entire plot is already revealed in the trailer.
3) Mediocre cast
4) Vikramaditya Motwane’s attempt may not be half-hearted but is definitely half-baked. Clearly, the makers were watching The Dark Knight too many times while writing the screenplay.

Verdict – 5/5

Pros –
1) Team Phantom of Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane & Varun Grover have outdone themselves with this mind-blowing Mumbai noir. This series explores Mumbai underworld beyond the RGV point of view. What a debut for Netflix India!
2) Bold casting – Apart from the main cast, the supporting cast stands-out.From Sunny Pawar to Luke Kenny, from Jitendra Joshi to Elnaaz Norouzi.
3) Soundtrack. Right from the opening credit theme to the background score. The promo songs from Divine are also fabulous. (Kaam 25 & Jungli Sher)
4) Kukoo jaw-dropping revelation.Kudos to Kubra Sait for this bold role.
5) Extremely well-written screenplay. Two timelines executed simultaneously smoothly. The socio-political commentary by Gaitonde gives more weight to the series. The show is unapologetically multi-lingual.
6) Hindu mythology is an essential backdrop of this series. Episode titles from Mahabharata, Mandala theme in every episode etc.
7) Constable Katekar subplot.

Cons –
1) I wasn’t expecting a cliffhanger finale with a possible Season 2.
2) Nawaz role looks like an extension of Faizal from Wasseypur. He is so good at playing such characters that he’s typecasted just like De Niro as a gangster.
3) The nuclear connection is predictable.
4) Radhika Apte – not suited for a RAW officer role.

Verdict – 5/5

Pros –
1) The plight and love-story of a small-town struggling boxer trying to overcome unemployment, casteism & faulty sports infrastructure.
2) Jimmy Shergill & Ravi Kishan first encounter.
3) Shravan’s outburst on his superior officer. The most fulfilling scene of the movie. Evils of casteism are seamlessly added to the plot. While Sanjay Kumar is facing casteist jibe from Bhagwan Das Mishra, Shravan is facing a revengeful treatment from a lower caste officer.
4) Anurag Kashyap smoothly included beef-lynching and jingoism in this sports drama without any fuss – genius.
5) Juicy dialogues along with great music is always a USP of Kashyap’s movies. Brave soundtrack.

Cons –
1) Less screen-time to Ravi Kishan.
2) Rocky inspired climax.

Verdict – 1/5

Pros –

1) Effortless execution from lead as well as supporting actors
2) Shweta Tripathi – playing a character less than half of her age.

Cons –

1) Pedophilia is not humorous – irrespective of the context. If the director wants to play discount Nobokov, a half-hearted effort is not enough.
2) The sub-plot involving kids slows down the story.
3) Telefilm level material. Gross and disturbing.
