Verdict – 1/5

Pros –
1) Ike Barinholtz as Hunter – the only saving grace from this disaster
2) Gary Cole sub-plot provides some relief

Cons –
1) If you’ve seen the trailer then you can skip the first 60 minutes of the movie. Even the only sequence (beer chugging) where the writer tried to add slapstick humor was included in the trailer.
2) The movie is not funny. It never clicks. John Cena is trying to step foot in Will Ferrell shoes.
3) The only reason why it’s getting rave reviews of being a “progressive” teen-sex-comedy is due to the LGBT sub-plot

CULT – 1

Verdict – 5/5

Pros –
1)The chances of this Jane Austen classic being ruined with slow-paced storytelling were too high but to my surprise, the movie is a well-made rom-com with some memorable romantic sequences (especially the climactic scene where Darcy is walking toward Lizzie at dawn).
2) A supporting cast with the likes of Judi Dench and Donald Sutherland.
3) Only the second feature film adaptation of the novel after 1940 – any such adaptation won’t be required for at least another 50 years.
4) Good amount of comedy
5) Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy – it’s never easy to step into Colin Firth’s shoes.

The Breakfast Club (1985)

CULT – 1

Verdict – 5/5

Pros –
1) A coming-of-age teenage drama where 5 teenagers spent a Saturday together and rediscover themselves. A must watch from John Hughes.
2) Natural performance from all actors.
3) Quintessential 80s soundtrack with some great sound-mixing. Closing credit: Don’t You (Forget About Me)
4) Minimal cast and single-day story.

Cons –
1) This movie is to be watched at a certain age to feel the essence of it. For a grown adult, the movie is of little consequences and influence.
